

John graduated from Godby High School with the Class of 1979 and proudly served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1979 to 1982. After his military service, he spent many years in the automotive industry as a service advisor, working for Big 10 Tires, Capital Car Care Center, Peter Boulware Toyota, and Auto Xperts. He finished his career at the Tallahassee Auto Auction, where he was respected by coworkers and customers alike. He was also a proud member of the Tallahassee Moose Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose.
John is survived by his wife, Lissa McConnell, whom he married on August 28, 1986; his mother, Elaine McConnell; his sons, Nate McConnell and Jordan McConnell; his daughter-in-laws, Shaniah and Kimora McConnell; his sister, Charlene Harnevious, and her husband, Sam, and their sons, Josh and Noah Harnevious; and their wives Jacqueline and Jenna Harnevious; uncles, Terry Folmar and wife Donna, and Mark Folmar and wife Peggy; his aunt, Debbie Spitler, and husband Dan; his faithful dog, Morgan; and many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Arnold McConnell, who died in 2008.
John was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle who cared deeply for his family. He worked hard, faced years of poor health with strength and perseverance, and rarely complained. He will be remembered for the way he cared for the people closest to him and the strength he showed throughout his life.
The family would like to thank the staff of Big Bend Hospice for the compassionate care, comfort, and kindness they provided John during his final days, allowing him to remain at home surrounded by those who loved him.
A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312. Family and friends are invited to attend.
