Jon was born in Park Ridge, Illinois on July 16, 1982. From the age of 2, he grew up in his adopted home state of Florida in Longwood and later Tallahassee where he finished high school. He loved to challenge his hands and his mind. From an early age, he fixed things and invented gadgets. He was a man of ideas and creation. As a chef, he crafted world class menus at respected restaurants. He was a skilled craftsman who, among other things, enjoyed building fiberglass boats. Jonathan was a hobbyist who gardened, forged knives and carved wood. You were a favorite friend indeed if Jon created and bottled a custom hot sauce for you. Truly a deep and layered man, he also loved traveling and the outdoors. He worked and hiked at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, swam in the Pacific Ocean, waded in cold streams at the foot the Smoky Mountains and fished the lakes, rivers and seas along the way. He cherished simple pleasures like a well written country song, wrestling with his dog and long conversations with his grandmother, Ruth. Thoughtful and sensitive, Jon kept journals where he wrote poems, pondered and reflected on life and God, drafted ideas for novels and doodled inventions. Jonathan was a humble Christian man, who carried God with him through all of his struggles and many blessings.
His greatest joy was his son, Corbin Richard Moore for whom he dreamed and prayed. Jon’s heart doubled in size the day his son was born in 2013. Fatherhood was his greatest aspiration, and his smile was never brighter than when he was with his precious boy. He will be dearly missed by his son who he shared with his love, Ashley Shulstad and Corbin’s older brother Brendan Sheehan. They were the family of his heart for which he was endlessly proud and grateful.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Richard A. Moore and John L. Geshay,. as well as his Uncle Thomas W. Moore and Aunt Julie Sohn Geshay - all who welcomed him into the peace of heaven. He is survived and deeply mourned by his mother Gail Geshay Snyder and the father who raised him, Lawson E. Snyder. His sisters, Lisa Moore Valentine (Michael), Annie K. Moore and Emily Shea Snyder will miss him dearly as will his two nephews, Maddux and Lawson Valentine. He is further survived by his grandmothers, Ruth Moore of Tonawanda, New York, and Gladys Geshay of Racine, Wisconsin, his brother Jaymes Moore, his father Gordon P. Moore (Jody), his Aunt Pat Pohle (Ken), Uncles Jim Moore, Jeff Geshay (Katy), Jim Geshay (Julie d.) and Joel Geshay (Shelby), and his favorite Aunt “Uncle Barbi” Geshay Murdock (Roger). Jon had a multitude of cousins, coast to coast, who will miss his sly jokes and raucous laughter.
Due to the current pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at one of his favorite beaches later this year. Jon’s family will issue invitations for the gathering when it is a healthier time to travel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a trust that has been established for the benefit of his son’s education.
