Joe Lee, 67, of Tallahassee, FL died Sunday (9/16) at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Joe was predeceased by his mother, Spears Elrod (Greenville, SC). Born in Spartanburg, SC, Joe attended Greenville High School and earned his B.A. in Sociology from Newberry College where he met his wife of 45 years, Manning Odom (Jacksonville, FL). He is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Joe lived in Jacksonville, FL most of his life and worked in marketing at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida. Retiring after 40 years, he moved to Pawley’s Island, SC before moving to Tallahassee, FL in 2011. He enjoyed such hobbies as fishing, photography, woodworking, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated fan of the Clemson Tigers and also collected post-WWII Lionel model trains.
Survivors include his wife, Manning; children, Jason Matthew (Stephanie) of Niceville, FL, Cameron Lee (Kyle) Ulrich of Tallahassee, FL; father, Joseph E., Sr. of Greenville, SC; brothers, Tommy (Mary) of Georgetown, SC, Jim (Lisa) of Greenville, SC; sisters, Peggy (Don) Wolff and Mary Ann (David) Geney both of Pawley’s Island, SC; grandchildren, Caden, Harper, McClaine Ulrich, Grant Ulrich; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation.
