

Mr. Yokom was born in Cuba and moved to Miami with his parents as a boy. He lived in Miami for most of his life, joined the army, and worked in construction and in restaurant kitchens as a cook. He met his wife Evelyn while she was a waitress at one of those restaurants. He had a daughter, Lynda, with her and adopted her son, Frederick, from a previous marriage. They moved to Tallahassee in the early 80’s to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He was known for his Cuban cooking and his love of family, friends, and animals, all of which adored him equally.
He is predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 1985 and is survived by his son, Frederick Yokom, of Macclenny, FL, and his daughter, Lynda Gissendanner, of Tallahassee, FL. Mr. Yokom is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren in Florida, North Carolina, and Washington. His daughter, Lynda, was by his side throughout his final years and took sole care of him in his final days in their home in Tallahassee through the help of hospice.
Graveside services will be 12 O’clock Noon, Saturday November 8 at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road Tallahassee.
