Joyce lived and enjoyed a charmed life in the service of her family and the Lord Jesus Christ. She spent her early years in Savannah, Georgia and Hardeeville, SC, with her parents, Lillian K. Davis and Percy L. Hubbard. Born on September 5, 1923, the family moved to Elizabethtown, NC, in the 1930’s, where she met her future husband while in high school. She graduated from Louisburg College. Her sweetheart Stewart enlisted in the Army Air Corp at the outset of WWII. Joyce traveled by train from Elizabethtown to Las Vegas, NE, where the two were reunited and married on March 25, 1944. They enjoyed 44 year of a loving marriage before Stewart’s passing. Their life together revolved around church, family, and Stewart’s’ military career. She loved to travel and enjoyed living in Colorado, Bermuda, Hawaii, Washington DC, and North Carolina.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Marcus S. Fisher Jr. of Tallahassee FL and Michael H. Fisher of Durham, NC. Her daughter Cynthia Fisher Anderson passed sadly in 1993. Other beloved family members include Eugene Gibson Anderson (son in law) of Elizabethtown, Carol Camp Fisher and Anna Astriab Fisher (daughters in law) of Tallahassee and Durham, respectively, granddaughters Ashley Anderson Hardee of Greenville, NC, Joy Anderson McDonald of Jacksonville, FL, Genese Fisher Anderson of Elizabethtown, Sarah Stewart Fisher and Cynthia Astriab Fisher of Durham, and grandson Jon Marcus Fisher of Durham. Joyce has two great grandchildren – twins Seth Anderson Hardee and Stewart Christopher Hardee of Greenville.
Joyce was a lifelong member of the Baptist church wherever she lived, and loved to sign hymns and attend “prayer meeting”. She was a loving mother and wife, avid bowler and bridge player, and read at least one book per week between solving crypto quotes. She leaves with her loved ones and countless friends a marvelous example of an exemplary life. It was a blessing to share our lives with her. In God’s presence, she will surely be the recipient of the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
A graveside memorial service is planned for family and friends on Saturday April 23 at Elizabethtown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, Florida 32308 are welcomed and appreciated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
