The Measure of a Woman at 88
To know Judith Anne Nable was to love her. Judy shared her love for Jesus with everyone she met, always seeking new ways to expand the Lord’s Kingdom. Judy had remarkable depth—she was a wellspring of wisdom and insight. She was the type of person who would watch water swirl down a drain, laugh, and engage in a conversation with God about the beauty and intricacy of it all. She would also marvel at cracks in the asphalt, telling God, “This is just beautiful!” Judy found beauty in places that others often overlooked. Her keen eye for detail was evident in how she orchestrated her everyday life—she lived with purpose, and nothing was too small to appreciate. Judy’s love languages were words of affirmation and quality time. She loved writing long letters to those close to her; her birthday letters were often as thick as the Sunday newspaper. She dearly loved spending time with her family. Judy’s favorite response to any joke was, “You insolent swine!” followed by her joyful laughter. She created many things with her hands: painting, quilting, and cooking. Everything Judy did throughout her life was rooted in love. She loved fiercely, forgave often, and showed grace. Judy was an embodiment of God’s love on Earth.
Judy was born on November 14, 1935, in Amsterdam, New York, but soon moved to Auburndale, FL, where she lived most of her life before moving to Tallahassee after high school to attend Florida State University. There, she earned her B.A. in Art Design. Judy met Jesse in Tallahassee while they were both in college. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Nable; her father, William Dougan; her mother, Dorothy Rabe Dougan; and her brother, William “Joe” Dougan. Jesse and Judy were married on February 16, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia, and enjoyed 53 years of blissful marriage until his death in 2011. Judy and Jesse blessed the world with four children who walk in their footsteps and share their values: Greg Nable (Lorie) of Grand Ridge, FL, Tyler Wilson (Casey) of Marianna, FL, Ashlen Storie (Jimmy) of Long Beach, MS; Mark Nable (Deanna) of Vau, Portugal; Tim Nable (Debbie), Lauren, and Joshua of Tallahassee, FL; and Jessica Nable Heberle (late husband, Jim) and Joseph of Tallahassee, FL. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren. Judy’s profession was in the art industry; she was an award-winning artist and an active member of Tallahassee’s local Ten Artists Ltd. group. She worked for The Florida Bar for over 30 years in Tallahassee, FL. She was an active member at the First Church of the Nazarene, where she enjoyed praying for the sick, hosting Bible studies, and mentoring college students. Judy was a genuinely good woman who loved God and her family with her whole heart. She embodied everything Jesus taught us and showed us how to be. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love she left behind.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2024 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1983 Mahan Dr. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Big Bend Hospice in honor of Judy Nable.
