Katherine M. Burgess

Katherine Mitchell Burgess died on February 9, 2017. She was born in Uniontown, Alabama on December 16, 1919 to Junius Milton Burgess and Julia Helen Mitchell Burgess. At a young age, she and her family moved to Florida. Her father worked for the Florida Department of Agriculture, Animal Division. The family also resided in Jacksonville, Florida before returning to Tallahassee. The family owned property across from Lowes off of Blountstown Highway. There were streets in the area named: Burgess, Louise (her sister) and Katherine - which were later renamed by the city.

Katherine was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, even while she resided for several years in Port Angeles, WA to be near her sister. After the death of her sister's husband, the two sisters returned to their home in Tallahassee in the 1980's.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Louise and her niece, Katherine. She is survived by cousins William (Patricia) Burgess of Georgia, Lawrence Bowen of West Virginia and Mary F. Burgess of Georgia.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 814 North Gadsden Street, Tallahassee, FL at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in the family plot.
