

She was born January 20, 1925, to Annie Phillips Boykin and William Sterling Boykin, in Edgefield, South Carolina. When she was a young child, her family moved to LaGrange, Georgia, where she grew up. After graduating from high school at the age of 15, she attended Berry College. Although she was unable to return for her final semester, she was an excellent student, majoring in chemistry. In the early 1940s, Kathryn moved to Tallahassee. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. John Simpson until she married James Monroe Harrison in 1950.
During her 58-year marriage, Kathryn worked as a full time mother and homemaker. She was very involved in her children's school and other activities. She was also active in the Girls' Auxiliary and taught Sunday school, first at Immanuel Baptist Church and later at East Hill Baptist Church. Although most of her adult life was devoted to raising her children, running the household, and supporting her beloved husband, she did find time to indulge her passion for reading. She also became an avid golfer, with her husband being her favorite partner.
Kathryn is survived by daughters Jan Lear of Thomasville, Georgia and Lucy Harris (Fred) of Quincy; sons George H. Harrison, III (Joni) of Tallahassee; and James M. Harrison, Jr., of Tallahassee; brothers Allen Boykin of Tallahassee and Charles Boykin of Chesapeake, Virginia. She has seven grandchildren: Catherine Blair (Brian); Holle Roberts (Matt); Riley Harris; Katie Harris; Jamie Harrison; James "Trey" Harrison; and Payne Cook. She also has two great-grandchildren, Wilson and Ellie Blair.
Kathryn was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter Catherine Monroe Harrison, and four of her siblings, William Boykin, James Boykin, Tommy Boykin and Ann Thornton.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, March 1st, at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. Graveside service will be held 11 am Wednesday, March 2nd, at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association , PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308-5428.
