

Kay passed away (at home in Tallahassee) on January 12, 2022 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Kay was born on April 5, 1934 to Randolph C. Fulghum and Beneason Hoyle Fulghum in Macon Georgia. She grew up in Thomaston, Georgia with her parents and sister Fran and graduated from Robert E. Lee high school. Kay attended Piedmont School of Nursing in Atlanta where she met Leland Edward Jefferies, Jr.(Ed), who was a student at Georgia Tech University.
Kay and Ed Were married in 1953. The couple moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1956 where Kay was a secretary at Lockmar Elementary in Palm Bay. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. They lived in Melbourne for 57 years where they raised their three children. They moved to Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee, Florida in 2013. Kay was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge with her close group of friends.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Ed Jefferies, her three children, Susan Hugunin (Mike) from Tallahassee, FL, Cynthia Key (Bill) from Palm City, FL, and Benjamin Jefferies (Reagan) from Melbourne, FL, her sister Fran Shivers from Atlanta, GA, seven grand-children and seven great-grandchildren. She was fondly known as Kay, mom, and KK.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Culley's MeadowWood Chapel - 1737 Riggins Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Kay will be laid to rest at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Tallahassee Home Instead for the care and companionship they provided Kay in the past few years. She adored each and every one of them.
