Kelly was born on August 8, 1975, to Elizabeth Gail Bradley Cummings and Jimmy Charles Cummings at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Kelly attended Florida State University School (“Florida High”) from kindergarten through twelfth grade as a member of the “13-year club.” She treasured her friends from the Florida High family throughout her life. She graduated from Florida High in 1993 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University in 1997. She later went on to earn her master’s degree in Reading Education and Language Arts. While at Florida State University, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she became friends and sisters with many women who all shared the same zest for life, eagerness to help others, and love of the Seminoles. She was also a member of the Junior League of Tallahassee and enjoyed community philanthropy. Kelly was strong in her faith and believed in Jesus Christ and eternal life.
After earning her bachelor’s degree, she began her career in education through her first job teaching first grade at Fort Braden School. She adored the children in her classes and created some special friendships with her colleagues at what they endearingly called “the Fort.” Kelly continued her passion for reading and education as she worked for the McGraw-Hill educational publishing company and “Just Read, Florida” established under Governor Bush. Kelly was an avid reader herself and read anything ranging from women/fashion/gossip magazines to children’s books to lengthy romantic or serious novels and the Bible. She also had a knack for being bright and witty in her writing.
Kelly’s greatest love was her three children: the twins, J.P. and Mary Bradley, and her youngest, Alden. She loved doting over them and always made sure the girls wore matching bows and “coordinated” their outfits with their brother until they were old enough for her to allow them to win the clothing battle! She was always active in their church and school activities. She loved making cross stitch art for her kids and friends.
Growing up, Kelly was a member of Young Life, Gayfer’s teen-board, and student government. Throughout her youth, she was also a cheerleader, dancer, softball catcher, water skier, and tennis player. While it was an honor for her, it was her dad that loved to mention how proud he was to escort her across the football 50-yard line as the Class of ’93 Homecoming Queen!
Kelly was predeceased by her father, Jimmy Charles Cummings. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Gail Bradley Cummings; her sister, Lori Cummings Hamilton; her children, James Patrick Magill, Jr., Mary Bradley Magill, and Alden Elizabeth Magill; her nephew, Landon Charles Hamilton; and her special friends, Willie Pearl Smallwood and Benson (Sharon) Woodbery.
