

The world lost a remarkable man on April 19, 2026, when Kenneth McLaughlin, aged 67, passed away at Dozier House hospice after a courageous battle with kidney disease. Born on September 5, 1958, in Bethesda, Maryland, Ken was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose gentle spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many.
Ken was the cherished son of the late George and Catherine McLaughlin and is predeceased by his siblings Robert, Steve, Michael, and Barbara. He is survived by Erin, his devoted wife of forty-three years, whom he married on December 17, 1982, at Blessed Sacrament in Tallahassee. Their enduring partnership was an inspiring testament to love and commitment and a foundation for their family.
Ken leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: son Duncan (Melissa) along with their children Elliot, Graham, and Mason; son Dylan (Haley); and daughter Marietta (Jon.) He is also survived by his sister Kathy (Bob), brother Dennis (Jode) and brother Victor (Kathleen), along with legions family members and faithful, supportive friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A proud graduate of Lely High School in 1976, Ken earned a BA from UF in 1980 and a JD from FSU in December 1982. His career was marked by dedication and integrity, serving the State of Florida as an Assistant Attorney General and Assistant General Counsel for the Department of Game and Fish. For the last 23 years, Ken was a respected member of the First District Court of Appeals central staff, where he rose to Director of Central Staff and General Counsel. His legal acumen and steadfast work ethic earned him the admiration of colleagues and litigants alike.
Ken's was a faithful observant Catholic, actively involved with Blessed Sacrament in Tallahassee, St. Joseph Woodlawn VA and St. Margaret/St. Vincent DePaul, Madison and Monticello Florida. His spiritual commitment was matched by his love for his family, fishing and working with his hands, creating masterpieces without a blueprint.
Known for his legendary dry humor, Ken was loved and respected by everyone he met. His kindness and generosity were boundless, extending to his family, friends, and even strangers. Ken's devotion to his children and grandchildren was unshakable, their laughter a melody that filled his heart.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Big Bend Hospice, especially Kellie Wiggins, the staff of the Dozier House, and the Four Freedoms DaVita Center, Madison, for their compassionate care and friendship during Ken's illness.
Kenneth McLaughlin will forever be remembered for his amazing sense of humor and storytelling, unwavering strength, his enduring love, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Funeral service will be 2 PM, Saturday May 9, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament (653 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308).
