LaJuana (“Lou”) R. Michaels, age 87, passed away on January 18th. She was born in Wakulla County, Florida on October 9, 1933. Lou enjoyed traveling and entertaining with her husband Harry for many years. She never stopped enjoying entertaining, especially outside on the back deck or inside with a fire burning. She was always up for company. Lou was a master gardener and believed that “flowers were always worth the trouble.” She kept a perfect yard full of flower beds, including an exceptional rose garden, and all kinds of plants and trees. Lou was a professional legal secretary in private legal offices until 1982; then worked as a judicial assistant to Florida Supreme Court Justice Ben F. Overton until he retired. Through her profession she made lifelong friends and continued to attend weekly lunch with the ladies long after they had all retired.
Lou loved her family, her friends and her dogs. Lou was full of life and always made an impression. She was a lifelong resident of Florida and a proud, strong, vocal democrat. She was very happy that she got to see Joe Biden elected as President.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 33 years, Harry Lewis Michaels. She is also predeceased by her parents Frances McKenzie Roberts and Edgar LaFayette Roberts, her brothers Wendell and Milton Roberts, and her sister Thelma Meltsner. She is survived by her sister Betty Folsom and brother Marlan Roberts. She is also survived by her son Robert Austin, daughter Beth Moyer (and husband Tony), daughter Patti Beason (and husband Doug) and their daughter Kara. Kara was her only grandchild and her greatest pride and joy.
Lou chose to be cremated. She will be buried with her husband Harry in a private memorial service at a future date.
