Larry was a man to be admired. Always pursuing ways to help others and sharing his time and talents with grace and persistence. He is missed and remembered.

Larry was such a kind, thoughtful, talented man. I met Larry when he was my principal at Cobb Middle School and he took time to visit with us kids during our lunch breaks.  He taught me a “magic trick” with a pencil. 
When he was the POA for his friend, Nell Tavener,  I got to know Larry and Kathy more. I worked at Woodmont where Larry moved Nell and her husband to when they needed assisted living. He was a great caregiver! .How lucky was Nell to have them as friends?!
Larry and Kathy always loved kids! When my daughter turned 3, Larry and Kathy hosted her birthday party. Larry put together a Disney castle for her and her party guests to play in, but that morning she woke up with pink eye. No kids came, but Larry and Kathy still hosted her party! That was 19 years ago.
I invited Larry and Kathy to join the 20th Century Krewe of Springtime Tallahassee. They soon became active hosting parties, working on the floats, and helping wherever needed. Larry spent so much time at the Float Barn over that we decided to name our krewe’s storage area, Carmichael’s Castle. Larry was the Krewe Chief in 2009-2010. 
We will miss your wonderful smile and loving spirit, Larry. See you in heaven!

Mr Carmichael gave me my first job as a teacher. He was truly an educational leader and a mentor like no other. He stood tall in every way and was a positive influence on thousands of young people. It was truly a blessing to know and love Mr. Carmichael.

I taught at Cobb Middle School in 1977-1978. 
I remember Larry Carmichael as a great principal and a joy to work with.

Derek and Family.   I did not know your Dad although  I did see him once, somewhere.  My kids spoke well of him, though, and advised me that he was a middle school principal.  But I have known, you, Derek, and he raised a fine son.  You are one good hearted fellow,  I have always known you to be kind and caring and peaceful and more. Dear Carmichael Family,
I know this is a difficult time for you and the family.  There is no good time to lose your Dad and while it was a blessing he was with you for so long, there is still no good time to lose your Dad.  Please know that I am thinking of you and yours. 
Larry was a wonderful gentleman and terrific mentor to me.  He and I worked together here at FREA since 2011. He was always so gracious, kind, and incredibly thoughtful. I valued his opinions highly, and even when we disagreed, we were able to do so with respect, grace, and sometimes laughter, by the time we came to an agreement. 
Larry’s dedication to FREA and our Mission was deep and wonderful. He truly was a strong warrior and invaluable historical resource for FREA. His value both personally and professionally cannot be overstated and he will be sorely missed. 
Please know that he will be remembered and honored.

Larry was a kind and thoughtful gentleman, an exemplary educator. He was committed to finding truth on  issues large and small, and  to sharing it with others. Clearly he was effective with  students.  I had the pleasure of working with him in communicating with a more challenging audience, Florida’s elected leaders and policy makers,  Larry’s clear thinking, plain speaking , tireless advocacy and leadership with the Florida Retired Educators Association contributed directly to the preservation and strengthening of the Florida Retirement System, through many  legislative challenges. His efforts benefit thousands who have chosen lives in public service. God bless Larry and his family.
