

Born in South Gate, California, on July 14, 1945, he grew up in Lakewood, California. He moved to Tallahassee from Ft. Lauderdale in 1993. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and supervisor, until his retirement in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arland and Ruth Spencer, of Hemet, California.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Susan Carol Spencer; a daughter, Katherine Noel Burke, both of Tallahassee; and a stepson, Joseph Canup, Chicago; as well as grandchildren, MacKenzie Burke-Detweiler, Kristin Canup Lloyd and Max Canup; and one great grandson. He also leaves one brother, William Edwin (Diane) Spencer, Trabuco Canyon, California; numerous nieces and nephews; and a step-daughter Amy (Cesar) Argarita, their sons, Christian and Alex, as well as numerous friends.
Larry attended Cerritos College, Cerritos, California and Cal State Fullerton, but was inducted into the Army just prior to his graduation. He was an avid golfer and a member of his colleges’ golf teams. He served in the Army from 1968-74, during the Viet Nam conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, where his employment with the US Postal Service began, and then transferred to Tallahassee in 1993.
In addition to his position with the Postal Service, he was also well known and very active with the FSU “Animals, Section B” a special cheering section for FSU Baseball. After his retirement, he regularly volunteered at Seminole Golf Course.
A gathering of family & friends will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at Culley’s MeadowWood Timberland Road Chapel from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm. A reception will be held in the MeadowWood Room following the service.
