

James Larry Todd was born March 7, 1938 in Atlanta Georgia to Bonnie Irene and James Wesley “Papa” Todd. During Papa Todd’s military service in WWII, the family would briefly live in Clayton, Georgia and Franklin, North Carolina. Eventually the family settled down in Ocala, Florida where Larry would grow up, graduating in 1956 from Ocala High School and lettering in Football as an offensive lineman. During this period, Larry was also selected to attend Boys State, a prestigious appointment bestowed to select exemplary young men of the State of Florida.
Following high school, Larry joined the United State Navy and served as a Gunnery Yeoman aboard the USS Fred T. Berry from 1958 - 1960. Following service in the U.S. Navy, Larry moved north to Tallahassee in order to attend Florida State University. Tallahassee was to become Larry’s home for the rest of his life where he eventually settled into a career as a Purchasing Agent for the State of Florida Department of Education, a role in which he remained in for more than 25 years.
In 1986 Larry met the love of his life Barbara “Bobbie” Todd. Marrying April 23, 1988, Larry and Bobbie enjoyed 35 wonderfully rich and blessed years together.
Throughout his life, Larry was engaged in many community and civic organizations including, the Tallahassee Kiwanis Club, R.E.A.C.T. and Gideons International. As a devoted Christian, Larry attended Christian Life Fellowship Church of Tallahassee for more than 30 years while serving as a faithful deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a talented and accomplished singer of the church choir and performed in singing Trios.
Larry spent his golden years employing his spiritual gift of encouragement to lift others up through his warm charm and exalting in his love of the Lord Jesus. He rarely met a stranger and possessed the unique gift of bringing out the very best in people.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie and leaves behind his wife Bobbie, son and daughter-in-law David and Patricia, granddaughters Noelle and Faith, sister Josie, nephew and wife Bill and Joyce as well as many, many other family members and loved ones.
A visitation for Larry will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee and the Funeral service will follow at 12 noon.
