

She was born in Tishomingo, Mississippi on March 10, 1930. Lena graduated from Florida State University and received a master’s degree from Florida State as well. She was married to Benjamin James Allen, Jr. in April of 1949.
Lena had a career in education, touching lives for 30 years. She taught at Leon High School and Tallahassee Community College, where she loved teaching English and Mythology. She was adored by her students. Lena was a member of the Tallahassee Garden Society. Lena was also a founding member of the Osher LifeLong Learning Institute at F.S.U.
Lena had a passion for Bridge, where she became a Bronze Life Master after she retired. Lena had a great zeal for traveling with her friends. She traveled the world, exploring new adventures. Lena loved the Arts and Broadway.
She is survived by her son, Jim Allen (Debra); grandchildren, Michael Allen, Benjamin Allen “BJ”, Paul Allen; her nephew, Berry Allen (Michelle), all of whom she worshiped; and her dear friend, Helen.
A Private Celebration of Life in Lena’s honor will be held with immediate family.
