

Leon (Lee) P. Yates, 96, of Tallahassee, FL, and formerly of Coventry, RI, passed peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born in Coventry, he was the son of Odias and Yvonne Yates (Coutu) and the beloved husband of the late Rita Yates (Berard).
A proud Korean Conflict War Veteran, Leon worked as a skilled lace weaver in the textile industry, retiring at age 62. Known for his natural ability to fix anything, he learned mechanical, electrical, and carpentry skills at a young age. His greatest passion was woodworking, and he crafted everything from furniture to dollhouses with patience and care.
Leon is survived by his daughters, Diane Louth (Yates) of Warwick, RI, and her husband Jim; Donna Ruscito (Yates) and her husband Richard of Tallahassee, FL; his brother Gerard Yates of Venice, FL; grandson Jim Louth III and his wife Lauren; granddaughter Shannon Grinnell (Louth); and great grandchildren Julia and Jim Louth IV.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Yvette, and brother Cleo.
Leon lived his life with self reliance, compassion, and humility. He leaves behind a legacy of character and gentleness that will be remembered always.
