Leonard was born at home in Detroit, Michigan to second generation Polish American parents, Stanislaus and Elizabeth Blaszczyk. He attended parochial schools until high school, which he left early to join the United States Air Force. He later finished high school and attended some college classes.
He served in the Air Force for 22 years retiring as a Master Sergeant. He married Penny Anne Reid July 21, 1961, just before moving from Homestead, Florida to the upper Peninsula of Michigan. While in Michigan they adopted two daughters, Jessica, and Melissa. After leaving Michigan he served at Warner Robins AFB, Georgia, U Tapao AFB, Thailand and Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, where he retired from the Air Force.
After retiring from the military, he and his family moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1979, where he became a Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and worked for 20 years. He and his wife of almost 61 years, loved traveling together seeing the wonders of God’s world. Together they were blessed to have traveled to over 50 countries and most of the United States.
He was a born-again Christian and a faithful member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. He was a dedicated husband, father and Jaja and is survived in death by his loving wife, Penny Blaszczyk, daughters Jessica and Melissa Norris, grandchildren, Kristen Slagle, Christopher Slagle, Rebecca Norris, Deborah Norris and great grandchildren, Kayla Chambers, Tyler Boykin, Cameron Boykin, Emily Davis, and Lillian Warren.
