
Leonard Mastrogiacomo, 97, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away on August 3, 2025. He was born in New York City on December 15, 1927. He served in the Army for two years and was a Fulbright Scholar. He was a graduate of Chicago Musical College and Julliard School of Music. In 1957, he married Norma Spangler. They were married until she passed away in 2015.
In 1960, he and Norma moved from New York to Tallahassee, where he started teaching at Florida State University. He was a Piano Professor at FSU for 51 years. He was a member of FSMTA and both he and Norma were awarded chairs. He was also awarded a fellow this year. Leonard and Norma were a Duo piano team at FSU and performed at Operaman, Ruby Diamond and also at the Bob Carr theater in Orlando with the Symphony. They did programs in the Tallahassee public schools in the early 1970's and worked with the Leon High School Band accompanying band members for Solo Contest performances. They also toured the Southeast transporting two grand pianos to various performances. He was an avid tennis player and loved to travel. He made multiple trips to Italy and he and his family lived for a year in Vienna, Austria in 1969, where he studied modern compositions.
In 2018, he moved to the Mount Dora area to be with his son and daughter-in-law.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Sherry Mastrogiacomo and two sisters, Maria Morgan and Ann Seidner.
His funeral service will be held at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL. 32312, on Saturday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m.
