

He was born in Racine, Wisconsin on August 1, 1925 to Violet F. (Hansen) & Arthur L. Schacht. He graduated from Horlick High School.
He entered the U.S. Navy in June 1944, serving in the South Pacific in WWII, honorably discharged June 1946 as a Baker 2nd Class. He attended the University of Wisconsin’s College of Agriculture in Madison, WI. He then began his career in the artificial insemination of cattle associated with American Breeders Service. He spent 55 years in that field.
In 1952 he moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he owned his own Inseminating Service for over 50 years. He serviced the cattle at the Federal Correctional Instution on their farm, and later became a full time employee at FCI. He retired in 1980 after 25 years service.
Lewis was a Life Time member of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. He has enjoyed a retirement of playing golf, following college sports, and traveling with his wife for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Beverly, sister Frances (Len) Deden of Racine, WI, daughters Carol A. Laramore of Marianna, FL, Leah Schacht of Bristol, Florida, Lesa Schacht of Panama City, FL, and son Aron J. (Carey) Schacht of Gainesville, FL.
Grandsons Lewis A., Joey P., & Aron J. Schacht, Jr. of Gainesville, FL.
He was preceded in death by his brother James A. Schacht and sister Hazel Schacht.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 8300 Deerlake Road West.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice who provided Lewis ad his family loving care.
