

Lloyd E. Ringgold, Sr. was born on October 27, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. as the only child to the parents of Lloyd Moxley Ringgold and Jean Clanton. Lloyd set the standard of excellence in demonstrating what hard work can do from an early age. He had a newspaper route at the age of 9 where he delivered papers on his bicycle before he went to school each day. He was an athlete in high school at Peabody High School, running track and playing basketball. Prior to his graduation in 1962, Lloyd met the love of his life, Carol Ball. The two were married in 1964 in Detroit, MI. Lloyd attended Tennessee State A&I University where he worked as a Printers Aide for the Nashville Tennessean, served as year book editor and participated in a work study program. He transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where he served on the Future Black Instructors Recruiting Committee. Lloyd graduated from Pitt with a degree in elementary education in 1972.
Lloyd was employed in variety of positions. Each one allowed him to share his values with his peers and the community. Lloyd sustained his family through his entrepreneurial efforts with Amway and Old Worlde. He worked for Westinghouse Aerodynamics in Pittsburgh, PA, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) in Atlanta, GA., Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA and Archbold Hospital in Thomasville, GA. He served as a minority business certifier for the Minority Business Association (MBA) in Tallahassee, FL for 23 years. He retired from the State of Florida in 2008.
Lloyd, affectionately known as “Pops”, is survived by wife of 57 years, Carol B. Ringgold; his eldest son Lloyd E. Ringgold, Jr. and his wife, Joann Ringgold of Las Vegas, NV; their children are Marissa Ringgold of Albuquerque, NM and Logan Ringgold of Las Vegas, NV.; His youngest son, Clinton A. Ringgold and his wife, Dorothy Ringgold of Midway, FL; and his daughter Tameran Hinson and her husband, John Hinson of Atlanta, GA; their daughter, Destini Hinson of Tallahassee, FL.
Lloyd was an avid family man who had a big heart. He enjoyed sports, especially his Pittsburgh Steelers, and volunteered his time in coaching basketball, soccer, football and baseball. His smile and big personality will be missed by all.
