

Raised in Warrington, FL, Lonnie was an active member of the Warrington Baptist Church and a distinguished Boy Scout, earning accolades including Eagle Scout, Explorer, God and Country Award, and Yustaga Lodge Chief - Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Pensacola High School, where he played drums in the band, and pursued his higher education at the University of Florida (architecture) and the University of West Florida, earning a B.S. in 1974.
Lonnie honorably served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Manley (DD-940). Following his service, he married Yvonne Shell (later divorced), and together they raised their two sons in Cantonment, FL. In his community, Lonnie was known for his roles as a little league football coach and Scout Leader.
He dedicated 34 years to Monsanto Chemical Corporation in Pensacola, FL, before retiring. His dedication was further exemplified through his volunteer work with the United Way, where he was honored as the Outstanding Loan Executive in 1992. Before moving to Tallahassee to be closer to family, Lonnie was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Gulf Breeze, FL, where he sang in the choir.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie E. Cahoon Sr. and Lillian I. Gould Cahoon; and his sisters Billie Barnthouse (Johnny) and Sue Smith. He is survived by his sisters Sarah N. Schafer (Mike) and Carolyn C. Archer (Bruce); his sons Lonnie “Tripp” E. Cahoon III (Denise) and Jodie E. Cahoon (Sherrie); his grandchildren Desta Cahoon Gourley (Travis), J. Scott Cahoon (Leigh), Conrad K. Cahoon (Julia), and Erin E. Cahoon Herman (David); and his great-grandson Cole Robert Cahoon. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Lonnie loved music and dancing and was an avid golfer, fisherman, and bird hunter. He especially cherished the time spent fishing and hunting with his sons and grandchildren. Above all, he was most proud of his family and held them dear to his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 8th, at Red Hills Village Retirement Resort, 5103 Cold Harbor Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32312. There will be a private family service at Pensacola, NAS, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
