Margaret “Peggy” Simpson passed away peacefully at Broadview Assisted Living on June 3, 2015, with family by her side. Born October 2, 1924 at St. Ann’s by the Sea near Manchester, England to Dudley and Winifred Howell.
At the age of five, she immigrated to Long Island, New York with her family. She later met and married a returning service man in 1945 and moved to his family home in Louisiana. That union produced Peggy’s two oldest daughters Sandy and Carol.
A second marriage in 1955 to Dennis Edward Simpson provided her with love, stability and the promise of a long, happy life. With Dennis, she moved to Bitburg AFB Germany where her third daughter, Catherine was born. A later transfer to Pease AFB in Portsmouth, NH brought the family back to the states and with it the blessing of a fourth daughter, Kay. After a final transfer to McCoy AFB in Orlando, FL, Dennis retired and moved the family to Tallahassee in 1979.
Peggy enjoyed a long career as a legal secretary and later as office manager for law firms in Orlando and Tallahassee. She always met the day with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.
After retiring she became a more avid reader in addition to nurturing her favorite plants and traveling with her husband. She loved her extended family and cheerfully accepted invitations for shopping, dining and special events. Peggy also had a life long love of animals and was a long time supporter of several animal rescue organizations.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Dennis, of 53 years in 2008. We take comfort in knowing that he gratefully took her hand as she passed from this world to the next.
She is survived by her four daughters Sandy Wallace (Bruce) of Catalina Island, CA; Carol McRae (Herb) and Catherine DeLoney (Jerry, DVM) of Tallahassee, and Kay VanTreese (Tom) of Lamont, FL, and five grandchildren, Adrianna McCollum (Jon), and MacKenzie Moore (Woody) both of San Diego, CA; Daniel Williams (Courtney) of Monticello, FL; John Michael McRae (Shannon) who temporarily reside in Thailand; and Heath McRae who resides in Yucca City, CA. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Ryan and Annabell Williams; all of whom will deeply mourn her loss.
Peggy also leaves behind her beloved Yorkie, Sophie, who is now being lovingly cared for by Tracy Creel and his daughters and also numerous good friends at the Ashford Club Apartments in Tallahassee.
A graveside service will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home on Timberlane Rd. at 2:30pm on Sunday June 7, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed to the Tallahassee/Leon County Humane Society.
