There will be a Celebration of Marlene’s life at Westminster Oaks, Maguire Center, 4449 Meandering Way, Tallahassee at 6:30 pm on Friday, 8/31/2018, and at 10:30 am on Saturday, 9/1/2018, at the Miccosukee Land Cooperative, 9601 Miccosukee Rd, Tallahassee with a pot luck reception to follow.
Marlene’s spirit left this earth on August 12, 2018. She was born on April 14, 1938, at her maternal grandmother Minnie Ruberg’s house in Denison, IA , and was soon welcomed by her 11 older brothers and sisters at the family farm 7 miles SE of Denison. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Marlene attended her first 8 years of school in the one-room (no plumbing) East Boyer #8 school where for several years her older sisters were the teachers. In 1956, she graduated from Denison High School and went on to Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA, graduating with an RN in 1959. She worked at Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis, MN; VA Psychiatric, St Cloud, MN; Weld County Hospital, Greeley CO; and finished her official nursing career after 20 years at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Marlene enjoyed serving her Lord in all ways, which included 30 plus medical clinics in Haiti, and after retirement she went to Arcahaie, Haiti, for extended 3-month visits to set up a weekly medical clinic with a Haitian doctor paid by Epiphany Lutheran Church. Marlene also served as a psychiatric volunteer with the American Red Cross, assisting in NY and New Jersey following the 9/11 disaster and to Santa Fe, NM fires, as well as many local disasters.
Marlene is survived by her 5 children: Mark (Karen), Stevensville, MD; Sue, Clearwater, FL; Ann (David Lee), Chugiak, AK; James (Junko), Tallahassee, FL; and Joy (Tom Krueger), Carrboro, NC; 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Zachary, Samuel, Elias, Jackson and Julia; 4 great grands: Ivy, Shade, Margaret and Julia. Marlene is also survived by 4 siblings: Wilma Walde, Denison, IA; Leonard (Shirley) Walde, Westside, IA; Gladys Hagny (Philip), Gettysburg, SD; and Marilyn Yoakum, Russell, IA; and 2 sisters-in-law: Clara Walde, Denison, IA; and JoAn Fuller Walde, Albuquerque, NM
Marlene was preceded in death by her former husband Gerry Brudenell, her parents William Walde and Lillian Ruberg Walde, and 8 siblings.
