Martha Sue Wilkes

Martha Sue Singleton Wilkes, 82, of Tallahassee, Florida received her eternal reward on August 19, 2021. She was born June 2, 1939 to William Buford and Edna Gainer Singleton. She attended Cottondale High School where she graduated in 1959 and met the love of her life, Broward Donald Wilkes. They were wed on April 9, 1961. Together they built a life they loved and are a blessing to all who know them.

Martha attended Chipola Junior College and graduated from Florida State University with an Education degree. While she did teach for one year, she used her education and her heart to fill those children who entered her home with love. Known by many names: Martha, Mrs. Wilkes, Mama, Mawmaw, she could always be called upon for love, an encouraging word, and a good meal.

Martha was a member of the Woodville First United Methodist Church for many years. She served in the women’s ministry, Vacation Bible School, and as a friend to many.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William “Bill” Singleton, and special Mother in Law, Lizzie Wilkes. Martha is survived by her devoted Husband of 60 years, Donald Wilkes. She is also survived by three loving children: Karla (Laird) Williams of Cottondale, Wade (Donna) Wilkes of Tallahassee, and Paul (Tracy) Wilkes of Crawfordville. Six grandchildren survive to cherish her memory: Laura (Kevin) Shaw, Kelly (Richard) Ratcliff, Jeremy (Sarah) Wilkes, Erica (Andrew) Hultzman, Kasey (David) Singh, and Christian (Marshall) Harvey. Twelve great-grandchildren will remember her legacy: Sarabeth, Patrick, John, and Ben Shaw, Barrett Ratcliff, Bryce Hultzman, Cheryl Ann, Zoey, Chloe, Gary, and Raelynn Wilkes, Riley Taylor, and Arlen Singh. She is also survived by sister, Linda Jeter, sister in law Linda (Ed) Wood, brother in law, Michael Wilkes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

A graveside service will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday at 11:00 AM CST/12:00 PM EST.
