A native Tallahasseen and graduate of Leon High, Marvin excelled in sports and in recognition for outstanding performance as a student athlete, he was awarded Hall of Fame status in both football (1986) and baseball (2007). As a former graduate of Florida State University, he was a faithful fan of FSU baseball, and except for health-related issues, never missed a game. Amongst his peers, he was considered a “baseball scholar” and a loyal team mate. Throughout his life, he continued to enjoy the company of a close circle of buddies with whom he hunted, fished and traded tall tales over morning coffee at the local Chick-fil-A.
Before retiring, Marvin worked as a concrete plant manager and later as a sales rep for Lafarge Concrete Company.
In addition to supporting his church and community, Marvin served his country by enlisting in the army. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Germany.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne Keeffe Haynes, a son Keeffee, and a daughter Lesley; a niece Kathy Mitchell, and cousin, Noel Haynes.
A memorial service will be held on Friday October 4th, 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Anglican Church or a charity of your choice.
