

Mary Allen Canup passed away September 14, 2014 at her home. She is the widow of Harry E. Canup who predeceased her in 1999. Mary was born on April 14, 1928, in Calvary, Georgia, the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Julia Burkhalter Allen.
Mary graduated from Cairo High School in 1946 and moved to Tallahassee to begin her post-secondary education. She worked at M&R Trucking and after staying home with her children returned to work at the Southern Scholarship Foundation. She was an active member of Freedom Church First Assembly of God for 67 years. She taught Sunday school for many years and was the recipient of the Lifetime Service Award. She loved to garden and play cards. She was a great cook and always looked forward to entertaining family and friends at her house. She took great pride in all of her grandchildren and loved the many visits with them.
Mary is survived by her sister Freda Allen Batchelor (Walter) of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, her children Edward G. Canup (Lisa) of Tallahassee, Florida, Patricia Canup Oorlog (Butch) of St. Petersburg, Florida and H. Allan Canup (Sara) of Valdosta, Georgia; her grandchildren Edward G. Canup, Jr., Jason Dodson, Ashley Dodson, Jonathan Oorlog III, Katie Oorlog, Jeff Canup (Danielle), Leigh Anne Canup, April Stites (Colin); 2 great-grandchildren, Alaina and Beau Canup and a special friend Calvin Shipman.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care by all the nurses at Woodmont Assisted Living. The family will receive friends at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel, Wednesday, September 17, 5:00 to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Freedom Church First Assembly of God, Thomasville Road. Flowers can be sent to Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home or donations can be made in her honor to the Freedom Church, Big Bend Hospice or a charity of choice.
