Mary Northrup

Mary Northrup, 82, of Tallahassee died Monday, March 5th. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to the late Sebastiano and Jennie Aversa. Mary came to Tallahassee in 1975 upon the retirement of her husband, SMSgt A.J, Northrup from the US Air Force. She worked daily humbly serving others until the end of her life on earth. Her first job was working at an apple orchard, then washing dishes and serving food to patients in a hospital when she was 14. She worked at a Civil Defense office while a senior at Leominster High School, where she was in the National Honor Society. She served at Modern Tool and Die Company prior to marrying A.J. Northrup, in 1957, at Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts. Mary served our Nation through her unwavering support during her husband's tours in Germany, Massachusetts, Vietnam and New York. She was a clerk, secretary, bank teller, and also a dental hygienist volunteer. Mary served at the State of Florida Division of Retirement from 1976-2002 as a disability specialist. Mary truly touched everyone in her life with her kindness and humility. Most importantly, Mary loved Jesus Christ, with whom she now resides in Heaven.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband A.J., her sister Jennie, and her son Bobby. She is survived by her wonderful sister and friend, Gloria Somma (Roger) of Leominster, Mass, son Alan (Jill) of Bonaire, GA, daughter-in-law Helena of Tallahassee, grandchildren Michelle Cortazzo (Chris) of Tampa, Jennie White (Chris) of Tallahassee, grandchildren Luke, Jared and Hope, and great-granddaugther Addison Grace White. Mary was truly blessed with many devoted friends.
