

Living in many locations in a military family, he graduated in 1977 from Biloxi High School. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), receiving his BS degree in Criminal Justice with an internship at Scotland Yard, London, UK. While at USM, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity, Army ROTC - receiving the prestigious George C Marshall ROTC Award and Distinguished Military Award, and Big Brother to the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. He excelled over his years in swimming - attending the AAU National Championships and Judo - achieving the Black Belt Rank, training in Korea with Olympic Judo Champions, and was presented the Presidential Sports Award in Judo by Ronald Reagan. At one time, he was ranked as high as seventh in the nation.
Major Korte received his Regular Army Commission on December 16, 1981. He had over 30 years combined active military service and US Army Reserves. Major Korte received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service and Overseas Ribbons, Parachutist and Air Assault Badges and Ranger Tab. His special training in the US Army included Military Police School, Ranger School, and Airborne - Parachutist. Major Korte had several Command assignments in Active Military and the Reserves. As a civilian, he received additional degrees in corrections where he worked and retired as Corrections Officer for the State of Florida and most recently worked with private security firms. In his remaining years he enjoyed caring for and time with his mother in Tallahassee and was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Tallahassee. “I have seen death, I have seen Life; I have done what others dream of but they dare not do; I have adventured life to its fullest” – McMeekin A. Major Korte was preceded in death by his father, Lt Col Michael A. Korte, USAF (Ret). He is survived by his mother Sara Frances Holland Korte, Sister Sara Ann Mitchell (William), brother James Andrew Korte (Kathy), Niece Sara Madison Mitchell, Nephews William Korte Mitchell (Briana), Jordan Harris Korte, Landon Turner Korte, and numerous cousins, aunt and uncles.
Memorial Services will be held Friday July 28th at 1:00 pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 4784 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL followed by a reception. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made in his honor to any benevolent organizations supporting American veterans.
