

Mac was the loving son of Melvin and Maudie McWaters. He was born on May 11, 1936 in Coffee County, Alabama. He attended the public schools of Coffee County and graduated from high school at Shumuckler High School. After his education, Mac felt the need to serve his country. He joined the United States Army and gave the best of his service. When his tour was over, Mac settled in Milton, Florida and began working for the Department of Transportation.
In 1972, he relocated to Tallahassee, Florida. There he married the love of his life, Joan. He and Joan shared 54 years of love and life together.
Mac became the Assistant Resident Engineer for the Department of Transportation in Tallahassee and worked there until his retirement.
Mac had a deep love for his family and friends. He also had a passion for music. He was an accomplished guitarist and musician. He was a member of the band Southbound.
Mac’s passing has left a void in the lives of his family and loved ones.
His survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Joan of Crawfordville; his loving children, Gary Stephens and Suzanne Magenheimer (Dan); his three brothers, Doyce McWaters (Audrey), Dwight McWaters and Rick McWaters (Sarah); his two sisters, Faye Waters (Jerry) and Martha Peeler; eleven grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside (central time zone) for Melvin will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Hickory Hammock Cemetery, Milton, Florida.
