

Mildred H. Mitchell, 94, passed away January 24, 2015 at the Big Bend Hospice House. Mildred was born August 8, 1920 in McClure, Ohio. She received her R.N. at Salem City Hospital in 1942. She was married to Ralph D. Mitchell for 30 years. Mildred moved to Tallahassee in 1975 and retired from the State of Florida.
After retirement, Mildred took dance lessons at Arthur Murray and met her long time companion Kent Martin.
Mildred and Kent enjoyed dancing together and traveling, including a cruise around South America and to Alaska. Mildred also enjoyed a trip to the Galapagos Islands with her niece in 2002 and a family vacation to Hawaii in 2005.
Mildred moved to Westminster Oaks in 2000 where she actively volunteered in the lending library, teaching bridge lessons and shared her love of music and dance with residents and staff. Mildred's other hobbies included gardening, sewing, needle point, reading, playing bridge, walking and spending time with her family and friends. Mildred loved and lived life to its fullest and always had room for a cookie.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents George Leroy and Hattie Irene Stackhouse, her husband Ralph D. Mitchell and her sister Charlotte Krengel.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara O'Stean (husband Rusty) of Tallahassee, son Glenn Mitchell (wife Cindy) of Hardwick, MA., niece Peg Krengel of Blue Bell, Pa., grandchildren Bonnie Koon (husband Chris), Emily Brown, Kendra Mitchell, Gracie Mitchell and Henry Mitchell and 3 great-grandchildren Kiersten, Brenna and Elizabeth Koon.
A memorial Service will be held at a later date at Westminster Oaks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Big Bend Hospice. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
