She was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on August 6th, 1929, to Benny and Eva Spooner. She had two brothers, Gregory and Wayne. She graduated from Greensboro High School in Greensboro, Florida.
She went on to nursing school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she excelled in her studies and was given the nickname “Slick” by her fellow nursing students and professors. After passing the Boards, she then was employed by Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, and was among the original staff of this facility. She worked along side many founding Doctors in the Emergency Department and the Pharmacy. She also worked for private health care practices in Tallahassee.
Bea was married to James “Jeff” Jefferson Sauls on December 13, 1958. She instantly became a loving mother to Jim, Leonard, and Walter, and a devoted caregiver to Jeff’s mother, Mattie Sauls. The following year, Jeff and Bea welcomed Robert Edward Sauls to the family. They were among the charter members of Forest Heights Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Bea could be found rocking babies, cooking meals in the church kitchen, or teaching young children in Sunday School and GAs. She was an active member of the WMU and the “Senior Saints". In later years, after Forest Heights merged with City Church, Bea was a devoted member there. She enjoyed years of participation in the Tallahassee Garden Club. Bea was the “neighborhood Mom”; you would often find kids coming to her for sweet treats, or to get their knees bandaged.
She had seven grandchildren: Stephen, Laura, Jimmy, Jackie, Marianne, Kristin, and Chase. She was blessed with twelve great grandchildren: Claire, Mady, Trey, Luke, Emory, Palmer, Charlotte, Emma, Robin, Ford, Macy, and Reid.
