
Minnie Lois Cannon Smith, ‘Mama Lois’, passed away at the age of 86 at the home of her daughter, Patsy Dunning, early Wednesday morning March 30th, 2016 in Sopchoppy, Florida of natural causes. She was born in Bell, Florida on March 12th, 1930 to Lewis Edmond Cannon and Hattie Grimes Cannon, and was a member of Spirit Life Church in Sopchoppy, Florida. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening and working crossword puzzles. She was employed by Food Fair of Jacksonville Florida for many years as a secretary and moved to Sopchoppy with her husband, Wilfred E. ‘Smitty’ Smith in 1994. Mama Lois and Smitty were the caretakers of Sopchoppy City Park for many years until their retirement in 2006.
Mama Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all her siblings. She is survived by two sons, James and Wayne Fowler of Lakeland, Florida; three daughters, Mary McGinnis of Lutz, Florida, Patsy Dunning, and Lori Strickland of Sopchoppy, Florida; eighteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Spirit Life Church with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.
