Monica Kae (Trunzo) Olsen, 52, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away January 28th, 2021 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Punxsutawney, PA on March 7th, 1968. Monica graduated from Florida State University with her Bachelor’s degree specializing in Criminal Justice in 1991. She was married to Thomas (Tom) M. Olsen on May 8th, 1993.
Monica started her career as a law enforcement officer in 1991, but when her and Tom decided to start a family, she decided to shift paths and started a new career. She started her new career for the Florida Legislature in February of 1995, quickly being promoted to an Information Systems Engineer/ Business Analyst. In 1996, Monica and Tom welcomed their daughter, Maria (24), into the world and shortly after in 2000 they welcomed their son Michael (21).
She was a very selfless and strong woman who fought a long hard battle so long just to be able to spend more time with her family. Even though Monica was not a member of any clubs or big on extravagant items her passion was her friends and most importantly her family. She was very proud to be a part of the Trunzo family and would let it be known whenever she would visit her hometown, Punxsutawney, for the annual “Trunzo Golf Tournament”. She enjoyed spending time with her family relaxing by the pool, out on the boat, and at all FSU football games. Her love for FSU football began with her father. He purchased season tickets and loved taking his daughters and eventually his grandchildren to the games. Monica loved having that special experience so much so that after he passed, she decided to carry on that legacy with her children. In reality, it did not matter what they were doing she was just happy to spend time with her family.
Monica is preceded in death by her parents James Trunzo (Jerry Francis Trunzo) and Kae Ingram (Norman Ingram). She is survived by her husband Tom, two children Maria and Michael. She is also survived by her sister Jessica Johnston (Kirby), two sister’s in-law Christine Taylor (Jerry), Erica Meyer (Ron), brother in-law Ronald Olsen (Ellen). Other relatives include her aunts, Nancy Sauls of Tallahassee, FL and Karen (Bob) Smouse of Punxsutawney, PA, along with eight nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and additional relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements will be held on at 11am, February 4th, 2021, at The Retreat at Bradley’s Pond. In precautions, due to COVID, the family asks that you kindly wear a mask. Monica would not want any of her loved ones getting sick while gathering to celebrate her. As the service will be held outside please dress for the weather; which may include garnet and gold attire or anything representing her love for dragonflies.
