Myles Hollander, 83, a prominent researcher, author and professor in the field of statistics, passed away peacefully on January 27 after a brief illness. Hollander earned his undergraduate degree at Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon), and his Ph.D in statistics at Stanford University. Hollander’s first childhood love, the Brooklyn Dodgers, was replaced by his enduring love for his wife, Glee, whom he met on the dance floor (Cha Cha) and married on August 17, 1963. He was a loving husband to Glee (d. 2015) for fifty-two years, and a devoted father of two sons (Layne and Bart) and five grandchildren (Taylor, Connor, Andrew, Robert and Caroline). Hollander was awarded the highest honor bestowed by the Florida State University’s faculty, Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor, and retired from FSU in 2007 after 42 years of service. A celebration of life will be held on FSU’s campus in the Fall in conjunction with the annual Myles Hollander Distinguished Lectureship. In lieu of flowers & gifts, the family asks for donations to the “Myles Hollander Endowed Lecture Fund (F08867)” located at give.fsu.edu to continue its support of the university, its statistics department, and the statistics profession
