Nancy graduated from Leon High School in 1949 and attended the University of Alabama before transferring back and graduating from Florida State University. While at FSU she pledged Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Upon graduation with a degree in Education she moved to Pensacola to do her student teaching internship. It was there she met the love of her life and future husband Edward J. Rooney. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tallahassee and moved to Jersey City where her husband had joined Trans World Airlines and was domiciled out of LaGuardia New York City. Nancy took jobs at Bamberger's Department Store in Jersey City and then Macy's in Manhattan. Every Thanksgiving Nancy would watch the parade and recall riding the train into Manhattan every day to go to work!
When Ed was furloughed by TWA, he moved to Tallahassee and went to work at Rainey Cawthon Distributor. Ed and Nancy loved being back in Tallahassee so much they decided to stay here when he was recalled by the Airline. Nancy taught 4th grade at Ruediger Elementary for several years. She later was the Bridal Consultant at Maas Brothers Department Store and really enjoyed helping so many local brides with their wedding preparations. In later years she opened Something Nice Antiques with friends.
Nancy loved knitting, Dog Island, dogs, mystery books and her family. She was a member of the Tallahassee Garden Club, Tallahassee Daylily Society and the North American Torquay Collectors Association.
She is predeceased by her husband, Ed, of 68 years by 19 days. She is survived by daughter, Kathleen Rooney; and son, Charles (Mary).
