Norwood Brinson Roddenberry, lovingly known as "Pops," was born on May 4, 1930, in Metcalf, Georgia, and entered the gates of glory on March 4, 2025. He was the son of Norwood James Roddenberry and Leedia Brinson Roddenberry, and was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy McFarland Roddenberry.
As the oldest son of 12 children, Norwood took on the role of a loving and guiding presence in his family. He was a devoted brother to Connie Sawyer, Helen Rezendes, Lucy McKown, Fondren Roddenberry, Doc Roddenberry, NJ Roddenberry, Warren Roddenberry, Doug Roddenberry, Reggie Roddenberry, Jackie Rogers, and Jimmy Roddenberry. His love and leadership among his siblings left a lasting impact that will be cherished forever.
Norwood was a proud U.S. Army veteran who honorably served his country during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division, demonstrating courage, dedication, and a deep commitment to his fellow soldiers. After his military service, he embarked on a long and successful career with Ryder Truck Rental, where he served as District Safety Manager for 37 years. His hard work and leadership were respected by colleagues and friends alike.
Beyond his career, Pops found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a faithful follower of our Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his children: Karen Mock (Terry Mock), Roddy Roddenberry (Cindy Roddenberry), Leigh Brocks (Siggy Brocks), Cheryl Cooper Oldani (Joe Oldani), Brent Roddenberry (Lisa Roddenberry), Rhonda Corley (Paul Corley), and Theresa Tidwell (Dave Tidwell). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Casey Burke, Josh Johnson, Brittney & Kaleb Atkins, Liam Brocks, Sydney Cooper, Michael McKenzie(Robert Bottrell), Faith & Brian Wilson, and Holly & Charlie Ellison, as well as his beloved great-grandchildren: Ashleigh & Caleb Kittrel, Cooper Clenney, Lilly & Camden Ellison, Leeah, Georgia, Bradlee, Brianna, and Brandon Johnson.
Pops’ love, wisdom, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, located at 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
A graveside service at Friendship Cemetery (Roddenberry Cemetery) to celebrate his life will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, located at 599-495 Friendship Church Rd, Metcalf, Georgia.
