She was the second daughter of the late Leroy Jordan Boone and Juanita Annie Boone. She was preceded in death by her two sisters Judy Ciampi and Juanita Boone. She was born in Coral Gables, Florida on May 10, 1941. She grew up in Coral Gables where she was the featured twirler and Homecoming Queen in high school. She later moved to Starke, Florida where she owned the KOA Campground with her late husband, Fred McElroy. While in Gainesville she volunteered to be a NICU Baby Cuddler which brought her so much joy.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Spitler of Tallahassee, Florida; her sons, Hans McElroy (Laureen McElroy) and Steve McElroy (Amber McElroy); and step-sons, Jeff McElroy and Roger McElroy. Grandma/ Mamoo leaves behind five amazing grandkids. She moved to Tallahassee when Lily and Emma (McElroy) were born and visited Parker, Finley, and Ryan in Maryland as often as she could. She loved her grandkids with all her heart.
The family will Celebrate her Life on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home (1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.) In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
