Paul Gregory Choppin passed away peacefully January 20, 2019, from cancer. Born March 14, 1957, to Gregory and Ann (Warner) Choppin, in Tallahassee, Florida. Paul spent most of his life in Tallahassee except for a brief time at St. George Island, where he met his wife, Brenda. They were married on March 24, 2003. Paul was a 1975 graduate of Godby High School, and held an Associate of Arts from Tallahassee Community College. He was a carpenter, builder and licensed contractor, working on many public and private projects in the Big Bend region for more than 30 years.
A great lover of the outdoors, Paul was never happier than when fishing the Gulf waters, hunting the Big Bend forests, using bow, black powder and conventional methods, surfing at St. George Island, or simply walking in the woods with one of his black Labs, especially Briar, his most recent. Paul had an interest in archeology, learning to knap flints in the style of the ancient inhabitants of North Florida, and pursued hobbies ranging from model building to beekeeping. He also enjoyed reading, music, and travel, especially to the Southwest. Paul was an attentive and faithful husband, a loving son, an affectionate brother, a devoted uncle, and a faithful friend. He will be remembered for his spontaneous humor and down to earth nature.
Paul is survived by his wife, Brenda Choppin, mother, Ann Choppin, sisters Denise, Suzanne, and Nadine and their families. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00pm at New Life Baptist Church, 3625 Woodville Hwy, Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to New Life Baptist Church or Big Bend Hospice.
