Penny Anita Mears Franklin

April 10, 1962January 2, 2013

Penny Anita Mears Franklin, 50, born in Altha, Florida and a resident of Tallahassee most of her adult life, lived April 10th 1962 until January 2nd 2013.

Penny is described by loved ones as a free spirit, with a childlike appreciation for life, and whose curiosity and sense of adventure led her to explore the deeper meaning to life, existence, politics, and spiritual truths. She was known well for her easy laughter, generous spirit, courageous heart and sunny disposition, touching those closest to her as well as those that came into her life even briefly. She enjoyed traveling internationally, visiting 13 countries during 2009, satisfying a lifelong interest in traditions and cultures different from her own. She was generous with her time and love with her family and friends and is remembered for her kind gestures and good hearted conversation. In her own words, she had this to say about her life’s purpose: “I would like to truly touch and be a 'transforming’ force in people. I want to also be transformed through our relationships. I want my life to be simple but rich and deep.”

Penny is preceded in death by her father, Ernest Mears and her sister, Teresa Stilwell.

She is survived by her daughters, Holly Elyse Franklin and Hillary Nicole Franklin; mother, Lucile Mears; siblings, Ronnie Mears, Tim Mears, Chris Sears, Sharon Pollard, and Elizabeth Holland; grand-dog, Rio; as well as many nieces and nephews and many friends.

I am saddened that I never heard back from Penny since the last time we spoke in 2012 and now I know why after trying to contact her for years now. We were really very good long distance friends that met at her bank in Lake City Florida back in 1983. She was full of life and wanted to see the world with her bubble southern accent she could light up an auditorium. I would always called her sunshine over the years we would talk about life and her two girls all the time, she was a true friend . Then I ended up getting married to another Penny whom I met in Arizona after moving back from Florida in 1986 but Penny and I always kept in touch until December of 2012 and I am saddened that I did not have contact with her daughters so maybe I could have said goodbye.
So "Rest in Peace" Penny.

Penny and I became good friends working together in the early 90's. I remember how we used to love to talk about our spiritual journeys and insights. The last time we met over lunch, she was leaving for Europe and I was moving to Montana. I was deeply saddened to learn of her passing, but her spirit is not lost to me. Penny's loving friendship was truly a blessing in my life.

Penny worked next to me for a few months during her time at the Wells Fargo Lake Mary site. She was always very sweet and full of ideas on ways to keep the team interacting. She brought lots of knowledge and experience to our team. We were all very sad to have learned she had become ill again and wouldn't return after last holiday season 2011. Many thoughts and prayers to her family.May you find peace and comfort during this difficult time. Loosing someone is never an easy battle. Please know she holds a special place with her Wells Fargo family

Scott and I were shocked to hear about your battle with breast cancer. You certainly had an impact on Scott's life during his time with you at People's First. You taught him so much that he greatly carried with him in his banking career. May God's loving arms wrap around your family during this sad time. Fly and soar with those new wings of yours. You will be missed but we WILL see you again sweet Penny.

Penny went to school with my brother, Scott, and I always remember how sweet she was. I am very saddened to hear of her passing, and especially at such a young age. The photo galary was beautiful and showed a wondrous spirit for life. My deepest sympathies to her entire family.
