Born in Anniston AL in 1913, he was the only son of Leila and A.W. Tipton. He was preceded in death in 2003 by Emogene Hall Tipton, his wife of 64 years, and is survived by his son, Ray Jr of Tallahassee, his sister, Julia Wilson of Anniston, AL and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of the University of Alabama in 1936 with both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Mathematics where he earned Phi Beta Kappa honors.
He was a life long educator having been a teacher, principal, superintendent and FL State Department of Education staff member.
He was a retired Lt Col in the US Air Force having served active duty from 1942 – 1946 and in the US Air Force Reserve until his retirement.
He was an active Kiwanis Club member for 50 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
In retirement he enjoyed golf well into his 90’s as well as bridge.
Private services will be held May 26 2017.
