Richmond “Rich/Bumpy” Eli Pouncey, III, Retired Naval Intelligence Commander and Forester, Farmer and Grits Connoisseur of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away at the age of 80 at his home in Tallahassee, Florida on November 11, 2019.

Rich is a graduate of the University of Georgia. He retired from the Navy after 26 years of service and also retired from his foresting company of more than 30 years, Longleaf Foresters. After retirement, he returned to the roots of his childhood and began planting heirloom vegetables at his home, “Bumpy Road Farm.”

He loved the outdoors and took great pride in the part he played in the restoration of this area’s native Longleaf Forests. Trees were his passion, and he loved planting vegetables and going to the market to sell his grits that he ground himself. He loved his family and meeting new people.

Rich is predeceased by his son Scott and survived by his wife, Maria, son, Carlos, daughter, Kathryn (Gonzalo), and his grandchildren, Joshua, Isa, and Lili, who all miss him greatly.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday the 23rd of November, 2019 followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm at Culley’s Funeral Home on Timberlane Road.

In memory of Rich, the family requests donations made to Big Bend Hospice.

Just want to say that Rich will be missed! Always enjoyed talking with him at events in KY & TN. Several times, have purchased and enjoyed his cornmeal and grits.
Deepest condolences to his family.

Rich was one of the first foresters I met who loved longleaf pine. He was one of the best at planting them and was a true professional. I hate to hear of his passing. Sympathy to your entire family.

I’m sad to read this. I didn’t know Bumpy personally but always saw him at markets, lake Ella and other community events. He had the best grits and always a word or two to share. ❤️😔😔

I will always remember Rich for his friendly personality and the great conversations. He and my boyfriend would talk for awhile at each visit to the farmers market. His grits were always great too. (Great to hear they'll still be available too!) Ironically, my boyfriend passed on 11/11/19 as well from complications from a stroke. May they both rest in peace and enjoy many more Georgia stories together. My condolences to your family during this time. He will surely be missed by many. 🙏❤🙏
