He was born in Fairfield, IL and attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a Master's degree in accounting in 1970. He moved with his family to Florida in 1972 and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation in 1999.
His greatest passion in life was serving God. He did this in many ways from teaching Sunday School, working with youth basketball and volunteer work. He was an avid sports fan and loved to follow the Seminoles and the Chicago Cubs.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2919 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32308-850-877-5423, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or Grace Lutheran Church. There will also be a service in Fairfield, Illinois at a later date.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Viola Irene Baker. Two daughters: Carmen Lashley (Tim) of Tallahassee and Krista Oguz of Decatur, Georgia. Three brothers and one sister: Paris Simpson, Jr. (Betty) of Fairfield, Illinois, John Simpson (Fran) of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Donald Simpson (Brenda) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Mary T'Jaden (Bob) of Fairfield, Illinois. Two grandchildren: Gregory Lashley and Olivia Lashley of Tallahassee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paris and Cora Simpson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
