Robert Hokanson, (65) died on August 24, 2024. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin July 7, 1959 and moved with his family shortly after to Tallahassee, Florida. Robert went to the old Florida High School (FSU Developmental Research School) from K-12 and then on to TCC.
In 1973, while the family lived in London, Robert and his brother, David, ages 12 and 11 years old, took a trip to France with their Boy Scout troop. On the return trip, the troop leader somehow missed the ferry but the boys made their way home to the family place in Sudbury Hill, near Wembley, by themselves. They were our resident experts on the London subway system and beyond, and we utilized their knowledge and sense of adventure on many excursions throughout Europe.
Robert fell in love with Colorado after taking ski trips there and he decided to move to Steamboat Springs where he could ski and bike ride to his heart’s content. In addition to working in many capacities for Walmart, Robert also started his own business taking guests to the area’s hot springs. He made many wonderful friendships during his time there.
When his knees got worse, Robert was able to transfer with Walmart back to Tallahassee to be closer to family, with his young nieces and nephews relishing their uncle’s closeness and fun loving nature.
Robert was a generous and honorable man. He helped many people throughout his life. He didn’t make a big deal about it, he just did it.
Robert is predeceased by his brother, David. He is survived by his parents, Drs. Jack and Santa Hokanson, his sisters, Carol, Jean and Martha (Robert), his brother, John (MaLynda), many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many wonderful friends.
We would welcome you sharing any remembrances on the obituary website that you have of Robert. The family will also receive guests to celebrate Robert on Thursday August 29, 2024 from 5:00-6:30pm at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee FL 32308.
