

Born on December 30, 1945, Wayne lived a life defined by hard work and quiet strength. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and honor that remained with him throughout his life.
For all of his adult life, Wayne worked as an insurance adjuster, a profession that reflected his fairness, steady judgment, and commitment to helping others navigate difficult times. He approached his work with integrity and professionalism, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of his career, Wayne found his greatest peace in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, cherishing the early mornings, the stillness of nature, and the simple joy of being outside. Those moments brought him happiness and created lasting memories with family and friends.
Above all, Wayne was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Sherrill Jeanne Mitchem; his daughter, Keri Rayborn Silver and her husband, Kevin Silver; his daughter Angela Dewayne Phenning; his son, Robert Wayne Mitchem Jr.; and his sister, Pat Thompson. He also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He will be remembered for his steadfast love, strong character, and the quiet way he showed up for those he loved. His life was a testament to loyalty, resilience, and family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312.
Though he has been called home, his love and the example he set will remain a guiding light to all who knew him.
