Born May 6, 1947 in Blakely, GA to Alma & Evelyn Steele, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolores, two sons, Rob (Leah) of Tallahassee and Randy (Kelly) of Winter Park, FL , two precious grandchildren, Haley & Trip, brother Stanley (Janice) and sister, Beverly Creel along with numerous nieces and nephews.
From an early age he wanted to be a physician, perhaps from the influence of his mother who was an R.N., his primary goal became obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree. Following high school graduation in Blakely, he studied at ABAC and the University of Georgia before obtaining his M.D. at the Medical College of Georgia.
Following his early graduation from medical school, he did a rotating internship in Columbus, GA and it was there that he met his future wife, Dolores. Upon completion of his internship, he worked as an ER physician before starting an OB/GYN residency in Jacksonville, FL.
Dr. Steele began a solo practice in Tallahassee in July 1976 until being joined by his brother-in-law, Dr. Bert Morales, in 1993.
He retired from clinical medicine in 1998. In addition to being a voracious reader, world traveler and philanthropist, he took up the hobbies of beekeeping and woodworking. His woodworking efforts yielded porch swings, rocking chairs, tables, picture frames, and most recently, a vanity for his granddaughter’s new bathroom. Bob was active in the Apalachee Beekeepers Association and served as its president for multiple terms. He obtained his private pilot’s license, loved working at his farm, FSU Basketball, and never lost his love for South Georgia - especially the peanuts produced there, be they green, boiled, parched, or fried.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date due to present Covid-19 issues. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the bee lab at the University of Florida [http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/honey-bee/about-us/support/] and/or buying a book for a special child in your life and reading it to them – repeatedly.
