Roger Lea Gray, known to everyone as Lee, passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on December 18, 1948, in Danville, Virginia, he was the son of Henry Jackson Gray and Marion Doris née Mangrum.
Lee proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he spent ten years working for Lowe’s, opening stores across the country before eventually settling in Tallahassee to be close to family. He went on to become a respected salesman and manager in the concrete industry, contributing to the major building projects that helped shape the community he called home.
Quick-witted and full of charm, Lee never met a stranger. He always had a joke, a story, or a smile ready for anyone willing to listen. He loved playing cards and had a special talent for poker, even competing in the 2005 World Series of Poker. Some of his happiest times were spent at the table with his poker group, swapping stories, laughing hard, and enjoying the friendly competition.
Lee was preceded in death by his loyal companion, Sir Lucky “Lucky” Lee Beauregard Gray.
Above all else, Lee was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janine Estes Gray; his daughters Melanie Lyn Clawson and her husband Kingsley, and Amy Gray Pankey and her husband Mark; and his grandsons Chandler Cox, Grayson Montgomery and his wife Vitoria, and Miles Safriet, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Maeve Montgomery, and two “granddogs,” Roosevelt and Bentley.
All are invited to attend the visitation and burial, which will be held on December 18, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home at 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312, followed by the burial at 2:00PM.
Lee Gray lived a life filled with humor, loyalty, and love. For those who didn’t know him, you missed out on quite a character in the best possible way. He will be deeply missed by all who did.
