Wow! There are some days I just so wish you were still here. You were my rock.  I've got you in my heart and mind and I still hear your words but not quite the same.  I love you Daddy!  Sending you Love and I know  you found a safe and happy place to land.

Dearest Rosalie and loved ones-
You and Sal always showed me what uncondtional love looked like. There was so many times that you and I would talk and your face always lit up when the name Sal was brought up. It amazed me after all those years, you both exhibited such love and devotion.
You helped me through a tumultuous marriage, an even more tumultuous divorce and I set you and Sal as my standard of what I wanted and deserved.
When I moved away from Tallahassee to start my new chapter, you followed me on my shoulder...always a source of strength, wisdom and kindness. 
Sal was a tower of quiet strength...you were the tinier tower of sage wisdom...Together you took hold of a place in my heart that is yours only.
May each passing day, lessen the pain that you and your girls and their families feel at this time.

It is difficult for me to put into words what my father is to me.   So many memories flood back mostly of him being strong, patient and unconditionally loving.  When people would ask me what was my father's career was, I always answer:  “His family.”   He devoted his whole life to us and was there for us… even when we thought we didn't want him to be and then many years in hind sight was always so grateful he was.  

My father was a well respected and quiet man who did not like a lot of attention.  I found myself often sitting quietly with him watching him as he created some beautiful three dimensional art for house decorations.   At a young age to me he seemed like he could do anything:  home repairs, to creating art, to swimming long distances in turbulent Atlantic waters, to pulling a baby tooth without any scare or pain, to calming and caring for children in a way no one else could.  For his family he often went above and beyond what was required of him.

I watched him get children who refused to eat almost anything to eating every nutritious food available. I watched him take a gaggle of wild tired children and gather them to tell them stories or teach them how to do some gardening. 
 
As a father of teens he held a very strict standard; we hated it!  We argued and thrashed at being held accountable to keeping ourselves and each other safe, healthy and productive but he never wavered in the slightest.   It was his duty to keep us safe and he held this responsibility as his highest priority.  And as grown women he gave us advice and helped us every way he could. 

But for me the one thing that struck me most was that sometimes my father was just magical.  Sometimes out of the blue when I was feeling my most distraught (without having told anyone in my family) my father would call and ask me what was wrong and then remind me not to worry, that all would be all right. I remember my mother telling me how he woke her up in the middle of the night to tell her, “tomorrow something will happen, when it does don't put your foot on the brake.”  The next morning a truck ran into her car, she did not put her foot on the break and so rather than being in a terrible wreck and injured the police officer told her by not putting her foot on the break the car was actually able to roll with very little impact and she was fine.   I don't know how he knew these things but for me it made me feel safe.  

There are many stories I can tell about my father.  There are many things I learned from him that have saved me a lot of distress.  But the thing I will miss the most is knowing he is right there loving us, keeping us safe.  

To my father I say, “I love you Daddy, you did your job well.  I wish you tons of love and many happy adventures in your new life.  You deserve it!  May God be with you and in you always.”

I was created in God's image,

I am cause.

When sadness reigns all around

I can create joy that abounds.

When pain and sorrow are imminent

I can put my attention on the positive

One of the great things my father taught me was the art of doing nothing.
This is not an easy task to accomplish as it requires sitting still.

Your breathing must control your inner peace to rise to the surface.
When this occurs no processes are visible to naked eye but your power is incredible.
It allows you to make your mind to go to places where control is not a goal but an influence.

Positive affirmation is sent to concept of idea and your imagination takes over.
Things that seemed so improbable become possible.

I was an old soul before I could ever practice this.
Many times it could only be accomplished prior to retiring for the night.
It cannot be chemically induced nor pushed but rather a flow of relaxation.
One can see this while studying nature in order to successful pull in an affirmation of safety and closeness.

There are times in the work of care given to this art is attractable to better results.
Steadying the hand, rhythm of inspiration, and extended expiration shows very subtle but intentional calmness. 

Doubts that stab at you become solvable as there is the art to focus on.
Feeling love is the real meaning to succeed at life but love is created from nothing

Salvatore DiGregorio was born March 25th 1920 in Brooklyn, New York.
He was a devoted husband to Rosalie Alessandra DiGregorio for 62 years and devoted father to Joan Benson, Diane DiGregorio Norgard and Lucille Stringer.

Dad was also a mentor to his son in laws, Bruce Benson and Wade Stinger.
The true joy of his life was his grandchildren: Elliot and Matthew Benson, Jeffrey Thompson and Alia Norgard; Gina Rogers, Alex and Audra Minckler.

He was also proud to be a great grandfather to Alana Rogers. Dad could always be found playing with the youngest members of the family, arranging games and handing out treats.
 
Sal and Rosalie moved their family to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1972 and then to Tallahassee in 1986. Dad enjoyed a long career in Tool and Die making and design. After his retirement, Dad very much enjoyed working in his yard. He enjoyed very good health, bragging never having to take any medications or seeing a doctor for 93 years. His family will miss him and always remember his words of wisdom and advice.

We've had you so long I guess we just thought you would never go. I consider myself blessed to have had you in my life the past 30 years. It kills me to know that my daughter has lost another great man that has been part of her life. I love you and miss you so much already. RIP Grandpa Sal
