On Saturday April 10, 2021, Sandra (Sandy) R. Carpenter of Tallahassee, Florida went to meet her Lord and Savior at the age of 83. She was born in Moultrie, Georgia March 27, 1938 to Henry W. and Rena Rhodes. A widow, she met and married her second husband, widower Paul I Carpenter in 1985.
She was a devout member of Bradfordville First Baptist Church; and enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and spending time with friends and family. Her Christian faith was an especially important part of her life as well as staying connected to those she loved. She was involved in the Radiance Rose Garden Circle for over 20 years, including having served as the president of the Circle’s final year. She was also a founding member of the Dixie Pearls, that started out as a group of high school classmates meeting monthly to stay connected, then became responsible for organizing their high school reunions. When she and Paul moved to the Park Charleston community she immediately got involved; originating, chairing, and serving on various committees of the Park Charleston HOA Neighborhood Committees. When Sandy’s children were younger, she was involved with the Parent Teacher Organizations and was the Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout Troop.
Sandy attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham, graduating from the Dental Hygiene program in 1958. She was a dedicated Dental Hygienist for 31 years.
She is preceded in death by her father, Henry W. Rhodes and her mother, Rena E. Rhodes as well as her first husband, L. Lindsey Sheppard. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Paul I. Carpenter; brother, W. Sherrod Rhodes (Mary Elizabeth); her children and stepchildren, Lori L. Harvey, Todd R. Sheppard, Randall P. Carpenter, Amy E. Baker (Terry), Kimberly A. Carpenter (Linda); her grandchildren, Morgan A Harvey, Brittany E. Locuson (Gary), Rebecca L. Baker, Jonathan D. Baker, Kacey C. Sheppard, W. Shawn Harvey, John (Jack) L. Sheppard; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte E. Locuson, Clayton L. Locuson, Corbin D. Locuson and Camden A. Locuson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 2pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida. The graveside service will begin at 3pm at MeadowWood Memorial Park with a reception to follow at Bradfordville First Baptist Church. In the case of inclement weather, services will be moved indoors.
