Shirley was my neighbor and a good friend for 12 years. I remember sitting in front of Shirleys house in the evenings talking and hanging out. Occasionally we would hit the Steak 'n Shake (her favorite restaurant) in the evenings for a few hours. Shirley once ordered a side salad and had to take half of it home as it was a "big" salad, in reality it was served on a saucer, a small portion. If only I could convince myself of her portion control theory. 

With the news of Shirleys death I am reminded that one by one the good people die and the world becomes a sadder place. That's just the way it is.
